As soon as a product exists in more than three variants, photography gets expensive. Every colour, every specification and every size would need its own sample and its own studio day. In a rendering the variant is one click, and the camera angle stays exactly identical across the whole set.
Then there is timing. A rendering is built from the engineering data, which means months before the first part comes off the line. Catalogue, website and trade fair stand can be finished when the product goes on sale rather than after it.
