Watersports is the field where photography depends most on weather and can be planned least. Wind comes when it comes. A kiter rides the perfect wave once and never the same way again. Anyone who starts setting up once the conditions have arrived photographs the leftovers of the day.
So I work to the wind rather than to the calendar. We look at the forecast together and agree a window instead of a date. In the water I shoot with a housing and fins, from the beach with long glass, and from the air where it is permitted. The selection lands the same evening, because a competition day or a camp week is only interesting while it is still running.
