Barbados sits alone in the Atlantic as the easternmost island, and that splits it cleanly in two: the east side stands in open swell and is unusable for boat work, the west side lies in the lee and is nearly always flat. So the work happens on the west coast only, between Bridgetown and Speightstown.
In December the Atlantic crossings arrive, and for a few weeks Port St Charles and Carlisle Bay hold more boats than the rest of the year together. That is the moment for material: yachts three thousand miles out of Europe, crew aboard, and the passage still visible on them.
