In Italy the shape is usually the argument. A fitting from the Marche, a galley from Lombardy or a hull from Liguria is bought because of how it looks, and a flat photograph of it on a workbench throws that away. A rendering lets the light be chosen rather than found: the same camera angle for every finish, the same reflection on brushed and polished, and the surface the designer actually drew.
The season decides when it has to be done. The Salone Nautico runs in Genoa in September and the furniture fair in Milan in April, with the printed material leaving months earlier. That puts the work in winter, when the yards are quieter and the engineering data for next season is already finished.
