British marine suppliers put their year into a handful of weeks around Southampton in September, and the material for it is signed off in spring. Photographing a full range for that means building samples, booking a studio and hoping the weather holds. Rendering the range means none of those three things, and the images are identical in light and angle across every variant.
The same files then carry on working. A rendering made for the stand becomes the catalogue picture, the web image on a white background and a thirty second animation for the trade press, all from one build rather than three separate shoots.
