France is where offshore racing actually lives. Around Lorient and La Trinité you will find more purpose built ocean racing machines in one basin than anywhere else on earth, and photographing them is a different discipline: everything happens faster, further offshore, and usually in worse weather.
The south is the opposite world. Saint-Tropez and Antibes in autumn bring out the classic fleet and the big schooners, which want long lenses, patience and a completely different edit. I work on both coasts, and which one suits you depends entirely on whether the boat is a tool or a piece of history.
