Genoa is the industrial capital of Italian boating: yards, suppliers, class societies and the biggest boat show in the Mediterranean in September. Much of the work here is not glamour but documentation, a refit, a delivery, a new model on the quay before the show opens.
Twenty minutes down the coast the tone changes completely. Portofino and Santa Margherita give the postcard, and the two can be combined in one trip: the working shots in the port, the beauty runs along the Ligurian coast in the evening light.
