During Kiel Week there is more happening on the fjord than in a whole summer, and anyone after material stands on the same bank as two hundred other people. It gets interesting outside that week: the fjord empties, the boats are available, and the pictures show the yacht rather than the crowd.
The fjord is narrow and deep, which is a gift for running shots: both shores stay in frame without going far offshore. At the northern end the Holtenau locks open onto the busiest artificial waterway in the world. For yards and suppliers in the region that is precisely the backdrop that explains the industry.
