In Saint-Tropez the boats are parked stern to the promenade and the whole town walks past them every evening. That is the only harbour on this coast where the deck of a yacht is genuinely on show, and it changes what is worth photographing: less empty anchorage, more of the boat in its setting.
Les Voiles in late September is the other reason to come. Classic rigs under sail with a shoreline behind them, and the light in that week is the best of the season. Outside those days the anchorages off Pampelonne give the clean water shots, twenty minutes out.
