Between Christmas and New Year the water off Gustavia holds the densest gathering of large yachts in the Caribbean. The harbour itself has few berths, so nearly everything lies at anchor, and for filming that is an advantage: the boats sit free in the water, with no neighbour in the frame and the island behind them.
St Barth is French, so European drone rules apply, and the approach into Saint-Jean comes in steeply over the pass. Flights are therefore cleared in advance and kept away from the approach line. In March the Bucket arrives, a week when the largest sailing yachts in the world race each other and not one camera boat is left free.
