At the south of the island the Pitons rise straight out of the sea, and a boat in front of them needs no further backdrop. It is the shot people come to St Lucia for, and it works early in the morning, before the slopes fall into their own shadow and while the bay still mirrors.
In December the ARC arrives in Rodney Bay, and for a few weeks the marina is full of boats that have just crossed the Atlantic. Anyone wanting material then books early. For the rest of the season Marigot Bay is the quieter option, narrow, green and almost invisible from outside.
