Croatia is the rare place where the backdrop comes for free. Within an hour of Split there are enough islands, bays and stone harbours that a boat never has to be filmed against empty water. That variety is the whole argument for flying here rather than shooting from the deck.
What limits it is season and access. In July and August the anchorages are full and the light windows are short, so the flying happens early. Around Dubrovnik and the national parks there are areas where nobody flies without written permission, and I get that beforehand instead of finding out on site.
